Museums of Palazzo Farnese - Piacenza
Descrizione
One of Piacenza’s most important monuments, the Palazzo Farnese, houses the Civic Museums, a complex spread across multiple floors and rooms of the palace. The permanent collections are divided into nine sections: Medieval Frescoes, Archaeology, Weapons, Farnese Splendors, Art Gallery, Risorgimento, Sculptures, Glass and Ceramics, and the Carriage Museum.
The exhibition project has made it possible to rediscover over a thousand finds that tell the story of Roman Placentia, from its foundation in 218 BC to the settlement of the Lombards in the 6th century AD.
Within the Archaeological Collection, particular emphasis was placed on the creation of the “Roman Section,” conceived to offer a significant contribution to the understanding of Piacenza’s past. The exhibition was designed to showcase the finds to their fullest, creating a visually compelling narrative.
BAWER oversaw the creation of scenic panels, platforms, display modules, and display cases, which house some of the Roman Section’s outstanding pieces. Among these, the imposing toga-wearing statue by the Athenian sculptor Kleoménes stands out, enhanced by a square-based metal stand that accentuates its monumentality.
