Installation created at the “Library of the Polytechnic University of Bari”

27 March 2023

The underlying idea of the team established by the rector of the Polytechnic University of Bari, Eugenio Di Sciascio, was to maintain the existing library facilities within the university and to identify additional spaces to create a single library building spanning the entire Polytechnic.

Bawer Museum provided seating such as waiting chairs and steel chairs. Reading tables and multimedia stations were used as study shelves, while a large reception desk was installed in the reception area.

Furthermore, single- and double-sided metal storage cabinets, shelves, and bookcases were supplied, as well as partition panels and mobile cabinet systems, which are inspired by a product concept designed more for the needs of libraries and book depositories rather than for simple archiving or traditional storage.

The goal was in fact to offer a real open wardrobe installed on a mobile base.

The construction of the shelf with solid side panels instead of traditional open uprights ensures a more rational use of the system: the archived material cannot slide laterally from one compartment to another.

For each bilateral trolley, two independent and staggered shelf fronts have been provided, and not a single support surface which severely limits the loading possibilities.

The thickness used also guarantees maximum strength and resistance, even to the highest loads.

Maximum attention has been paid to the safety of the systems: there is an anti-tipping device and an anti-crush device.
