Tesla is negotiating to establish a manufacturing center for electric commercial vehicles in Italy.
This dialogue is part of a broader Italian initiative to attract investment in the automotive sector, with discussions also underway with prestigious Chinese companies since last summer.
The Ministry of Business and Made in Italy (Mimit) and industry sources indicate that discussions with Tesla, led by innovator Elon Musk, are among the most promising, focusing on the creation of electric trucks and vans.
In addition to Tesla, Italy is exploring opportunities with other major international electric car companies, including BYD, Great Wall Motors, and Chery Automobile.
Despite the enthusiasm, analysts point out that Italy could find itself at a disadvantage compared to nations such as Germany, France, and Spain, thanks to their larger automotive production.
